Simon Redmill

As I shared a few weeks ago, I’ll shortly be starting a sabbatical on 18th June through to Westpoint at the end of August, and I wanted to share a few thoughts on what I’ll be getting up to.

A sabbatical is a time for me to take a step back from front-line church leadership to reflect, rest, re-charge and seek God for the exciting times He has ahead for us.

Specifically, there are 3 key elements, all of which I’m looking forward to and will do me good in different ways:

Conferences e.g. a ‘Father’s Heart’ conference in Bedford

Studying / seeking God: an opportunity to be refreshed and equipped

Holiday: we have some time in France as a family and myself and Sam are hoping to get some time to be away on our own for a few days.  I’m also hoping to work in a World Cup match or two!

In the last few years there’s been plenty going on in the life of Grace Church!  Whether it’s becoming a multi-site church and launching the Amesbury congregation, preparing to send Eustace and Theresa to church plant in Ghana, staff changes or starting our Transformation Program to provide a plan to our vision, it’s been fairly-full on!

I’m only too aware of the number of church leaders who burn-out and so I’m grateful to the elders, trustees and the church as a whole that allows me to take time away from church leadership.  The elders will continue to lead the church while I’m away, more than capably aided by Kara and Ian, and it’s great to be able to take a step back knowing that the church will be well led and cared for in my absence.

As a church I believe we’re well positioned to push into all that God has for us, and I look forward to both my sabbatical and returning in September refreshed, full of faith and raring to go!

With much love and gratitude,

P.S My last Sunday before my sabbatical is our ‘One Church Sunday’ on 17th June when we have baptisms and then a picnic and games afterwards.  Hope to see you there – it should be a lot of fun.
