Getting to know David & Tina Maskell

David has recently started as our new, full-time ‘Head of Pastoral Care’. He will have responsibility across both sites for: Community Groups, Pastoral Care, Discipleship and Social Action.

We thought we’d ask David and his wife Tina a few questions to help to get to know them.

Why do you follow Jesus?

David

Because once I met him at the age of 17 it made sense of life. Without him we live a pointless existence but with Him we have the opportunity for a lifetime of adventure and meaningful purpose.

Tina

Because he loves me so much that he gave up everything for me.  Because I can’t imagine doing life without him.

Tell us about your family?

David & Tina

We’ve been married for 30 years. We met in France and were married within a year of meeting. Our oldest daughter Abi 24 married André just over a year ago and they live near Bracknell.

Our younger daughter Lisa aged 22 did a Psychology degree at Bath University and after a year training as an accountant, has gone back to uni and is doing a MSc in Behavioural Science at Durham University.

Both girls are Christians and very involved in their local church context.

Favourite meal?

David

I like most things except rhubarb! Favourite, probably a good curry or a roast

Tina

Curry or a roast dinner

Favourite TV show?

David

I am not sure I have a favourite. I enjoy a variety of diverse things. I quite enjoy Escape to the Chateau or a good film with lots of action like Taken or Taken 2

Tina

Call the Midwife

Favourite sport?

David

Definitely Rugby Union

Tina

Favourite hobby?

David

Difficult choice. There is a theme of being outside and enjoying the countryside. As a favourite I will go fell walking in the Lake District.

Tina

Walking

Favourite bible character (apart from Jesus) and why?

David

David: Described as a man after God’s own heart. As he was growing up he was not recognised as being of any significance, but God saw something different in him. He was not perfect, but when he messed up he came back to God whole heartedly. A man of prayer and deep connection with God but also a man of action who made things happen.

Tina

Zacchaeus - there’s even hope for short people!

Thing you’re most looking forward to moving to Grace Church?

David

Meeting new people, doing new things, releasing others to reach their full potential and seeing people’s lives changed.

Tina

Starting a new adventure in God and getting to know new people
