Why we've changed our name to Grace Church

Today we switch from being Salisbury City Church to being known as Grace Church. The reason for the change can be summed up in one word: MISSION!

Over the last few months God has very clearly and prophetically led the Eldership Team towards us becoming what is often termed a multi-site church.

A multi-site church is ONE church that meets in more than one location in order to share the love of God with as many people as possible. We will still have ONE vision, ONE Eldership Team, ONE name, ONE set of doctrines, ONE set of cultural traits.....but from January 2017 we will meet in both Salisbury and Amesbury.

We are believing God that Amesbury will be one of many locations that God will lead us to (we're already feeling stirred by the thousands of people who don't know Jesus in Tidworth). By removing the geography and the word ‘City' from our name, it allows us to reach out to new places much more effectively and so aids the vision that God has called us to.

Multi-site combines the radical, pioneering spirit of church planting with the structure, stability and leadership of a more established church. A win-win!
The Apostle Paul said "I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some" (1 Cor 9 v 22). We think a name change is a small price to pay in order to help see more lives changed by Jesus.

Why the name Grace? Well, very simply, if I were to sum up the word Christianity in one word, it would be...GRACE! As a church we're called to know, love and worship our Heavenly Father and to see thousands of lives changed by Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit! All this is underpinned by Grace...God's unmerited favour given to us through Jesus.

I'm hugely excited by what God has got in store for us, and it was so encouraging to see over 220 people there on Sunday; God is already bringing us new people as we prepare to send a team on mission to Amesbury. I hope you can make this coming Sunday as we launch our new vision statement under our new Grace Church name, and continue on our Mission together.

These are exciting days - may we stay faithful to God and keep pressing into Him and what He has in store for us as a church!
