Child-Link is a small charity that was set up 20 years ago in Salisbury, with the specific aim of enabling children in poorer countries to reach their full potential academically, socially and health-wise.
At present Child-Link works closely with two projects, one in India and the other in Nepal. As we are a small charity, run mostly by volunteers a larger proportion of the funds raised go directly to what we say it is for, with comparatively little being spent on administration.
In India, we work closely with a local charity that runs a school from Kindergarten to A-Level equivalent, in rural Tamil Nadu. The school exists to share the love of God with the local tribal agricultural community while offering a high quality of education. It has a very good standing in the local community as it supports those who cannot afford good quality education and actively encourages the education of girls who would otherwise be sent to work in the fields or babysit, even before they hit their teens. This is where Child-Link steps in to financially support and enable girls to attend the school and also to access higher education. In 2023, two girls from this school achieved the highest A-Level marks in the entire district and both were Child-Link sponsored girls.
We are looking for more sponsors so that Child-Link can enable more girls have the education that they deserve and so be able to chart their own lives instead of being trapped by the norms of their society which would likely see them married off before they leave their teens. Child-Link has also been involved with fund raising for the school for specific projects as the need has arisen, such as classroom blocks and furniture.
In Nepal, we work with a pre-school and feeding programme in the slums of the capital, Katmandu. Pastor Daniel who heads up this work is dedicated to reaching out to and supporting the families in the slums by educating their littlest children and preparing for them to attend a local Christian school. He provides a healthy and substantial midday meal to every child. This not only encourages the children to attend regularly but takes a big burden off the parents who are mainly daily wage labourers and struggle to make ends meet.
Child-Link has also enabled this work to run a small school bus for the children who finish the pre-school to go to a nearby local Christian school. Without this support they probably would not be able to attend school. We would love to enable more children to attend the pre-school and benefit from healthy meals. But we need more sponsors to make this happen.
A regular monthly gift of £14 would enable another girl at our India project, to enjoy a good and normal education and have the power to choose her own path in life
A regular monthly gift of £8 would support another child from the slums of Katmandu grow into a healthy child with the ability to access education.
